The Wittenham Clumps near Wallingford in Oxfordshire have been a shrine of modern British painting for the last century, consecrated by Paul Nash’s obsessive depiction of them. The two clumps of beech trees which crown both hills are the oldest known planted hilltop beeches in England, dating back over 450 years.   Wilfrid de Glehn was an Impressionist British painter, elected to the Royal Academy in 1932. In 1891, he was hired by John Singer Sargent to assist him with the Boston Public Mural. He had a series of solo exhibitions at the Leicester Galleries and in New York. An oil painting of de Glehn’s of Venice featured on the BBC's Antique’s Roadshow in 2014 and was valued at £30,000.
