Roberto Miniati is an Italian contemporary artist born in Rome to a family of Florentine origins. From an early age, he developed a passion for drawing and visual art, later studying psychology while attending several private art academies. Although influenced by formal training, Miniati ultimately forged his own artistic language through independent study and continuous experimentation. His work is rooted in a dialogue with the great artistic movements of the twentieth century, including geometric abstraction, American Abstract Expressionism, and post-war European painting. Rather than imitating these traditions, Miniati uses them as points of departure for a deeply personal exploration of colour, gesture, and mark-making. Miniati describes his paintings as intuitive rather than pre-planned. His compositions balance structure with spontaneity, creating abstract visual landscapes that express emotional and psychological states. Since the early 1990s, Miniati has exhibited extensively in Italy and internationally. His work has been presented in solo exhibitions at major museums and galleries, including the Museo MAGI '900 in Bologna and the Museo Nazionale di Villa Pisani near Venice. He has also participated in the Rome Triennale and the International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale. Miniati’s work has been offered at auction multiple times, the record price being 48,000 euros for Eternal (2020) sold at Sotheby’s Milan in May 2024.
