Born in Charlons-sur-Marne, Antral studied under the painter Fernand Cormon before serving in the First World War during which he was awarded the Croix de Guerre. Following the conflict, he became a member of the Salon des Artistes Independants and won the Prix Blumenthal in 1926.


Louis Antral's work has been offered at auction multiple times, the record price being £6,690 USD for Port de Toulon sold at Christie’s Milan in 2021.
