Ethelbert White (1891–1972) was a British painter, illustrator, and printmaker best known for his evocative depictions of the English countryside and rural life. Working in watercolour, oils, and wood engravings, he combined a decorative, modern style with a strong sense of observation, often portraying landscapes, farming scenes, and village life. White exhibited regularly at leading London galleries, including the Royal Academy and the New English Art Club, and also illustrated books throughout his career. His work is represented in numerous public collections and is admired for its lyrical celebration of the British landscape. White’s's work has been offered at auction multiple times, the record price being £13,750 for The Level Crossing sold at Christie’s South Kensington in August 2014.
