Original tapestry design dedicated to the fallen of the French Resistance. Gouache on paper; signed bottom right. The text roughly translates: “From Warriors according to Hope, according to the Meaning of Life, to Heroes who Fell in Resistance to the Enemy.
The son the painter Charles Picart Le Doux (1881-1959), Le Doux was a French painter and illustrator central to the revival of contemporary tapestry in the post-war years.
Le Doux’s work has been offered at auction multiple times, the record price being 12,851 USD for Les Algues sold at Tajan in 2018.
