Born in Hanover, Ernst Oppler was an impressionist painter and engraver of portraits, interiors, landscapes. A member of the Berlin Secession, he is best known for his ethereal depictions of dancers and the ballet. Oppler’s works are in the collections of many museums including the National Gallery in Berlin and the Modern Gallery in Venice.

Oppler’s work has been offered at auction multiple times, the record price being 37,512 USD for Doppelportrat sold at Grisebach in 2014.
