Born in Fallencourt, Alfred Marie Le Petit was a French painter, engraver and cartoonist. Son of the famous cartoonist of the same name, Le Petit was a pupil of Fernand Cormon and Léon Bonnat and painted a number of landscapes of the English Channel, the North Sea, Le Havre and Rouen. He exhibited regularly at the Salon des Indépendants from 1908 to 1914 as well as illustrating Maupassant’s book Sur l’Eau.

Alfred Le Petit’s work has been offered at auction multiple times, with realized prices ranging from 131 USD to 6,350 USD, depending on the size and medium of the artwork. Since 2020 the record price for this artist at auction is 4,313 USD for Round Dance sold at Quittenbaum in 2011.
