Born in Glasgow in 1866, William Alfred Gibson spent ten years in the Royal Glasgow Queen’s Yeomanry before studying at The National Training College, Glasgow. He is particularly known for his landscapes the subject of which were often Scottish or Dutch river views. Gibson exhibited at The Royal Academy, Royal Scottish Academy, The Fine Art Society, Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts, Manchester City Art Gallery and many others and his works are represented in several public collections. William Alfred Gibson’s work has been offered at auction multiple times, the record price for the artist at auction being $13,097 USD for A Figure on a River Bank with Cottages Beyond sold at Christie’s London in 2007.
