£5,000
Original artwork for an interesting anti-nuclear poster from the USSR by a then Soviet soldier just at the moment the Kremlin were convinced Reagan’s United States was going to launch a pre-emptive strike on Russia.
Born in Kyiv, Ukrainian artist Aleksei Alekseevich studied at the Kyiv Art Institute under the guidance of Vasyl Kassian (1896-1976) from 1949-1955. His paintings are in many museums and in the private collections in both Ukraine and Russia. The caption in cyrillics on the painting translates as: ‘Let’s not blow up the earth’.
