Born in China, Timothy Hon Hung Lee now lives and works in the UK. Combining a love of Chinese history (especially the Qing and Tang dynasties) with a profound knowledge of western art, his work is a fascinating dichotomy of cultures. His pictures of flowing concubines, delicate still (yet definingly ‘unstill’) lifes of flowers and grimly obscured ecclesiastical figures have a spontaneous verve and rare virtuosity. Timothy’s work is mainly ink on paper, an unforgiving medium which makes his work all the more remarkable. He is one of today’s most naturally gifted emerging artists.
