Trained at the Slade under Henry Tonks (along with Mark Gertler, Stanley Spencer, C.R.W. Nevinson, and Dora Carrington), David Bomberg was one of the most audacious and provocative British artists of the 20th century. At Borough Polytechnic, he was its most influential teacher – his pupils included Frank Auerbach, Leon Kossoff, Philip Holmes, Cliff Holden, Edna Mann, Dorothy Mead, Gustav Metzger and Miles Richmond.

Bomberg’s work has been offered at auction multiple times, the record price being 1,923,854 USD for Cuenca from Mount Socorro sold at Christie’s in 2006.
